We have Officially Started!

We made it to our first destination.  This is the hostel where we are staying. It is a very old church. After we arrived, we attended the Stations of the Cross, where we walked up the side of a really big hill...elevation 1,300' with other parisioners. There were big grottos with statues or paintings. At the top there was another beautiful church where we attended 5pm mass.

Our walk went fine. We had trouble finding the markers and used Google Maps. Probably a mile from our destination,  we found them. They were way smaller than we thought. We are good to go from here on. Yesterday we only walked 9 miles, which was the plan.

The signals is very weak. It has taken me 30 min to do this post. So don't worry if you don't hear from us.

  3. Donna, I would love to follow along on the map -- can you mention in your posts the name of the town or hostel or church as you visit?

    1. Will do. Reception is really bad because we are in the Pyrenees so I can't really update the map. Our first hostel was in Betarrham. Last night we slept in Arudy.

  4. What a truly gorgeous hostel-you can just imagine it in its' heyday as a beautiful church. Nine miles is a wonderful start and you ladies should be proud of yourselves AND happy to truly be "on the way". It's wonderful getting your updates so hopefully the signal will hang in there.

  10. So are you guys turning south at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and crossing through the pyrenees? Looks like you're hiking over some pretty hilly terrain! Have you seen any great pyrenees fluffy mountain dogs?

    1. Bon soire! We are having an amazing, fabulous time!
Today we walked from arudy to Buzy, not very far...we walked probably 10 miles, but the road markers are few and confusing. So 5 hrs. walking, but only 5 miles progress. We were mountain-seeing.
We have seen many fluffy white dogs, so beautiful! Would you like me to bring you one? Or perhaps a goat? Very cute goats here!
We walked through a passel of cows today, and the bull (from behind the fence) growled at us! He didn't want to share his lady friends with us!
The terrain is incredibly mountainous, very steep and Rocky, and gorgeous! Learning a lot about myself, and God is opening my eyes to many things! We are staying with a most lovely woman today at her bed and breakfast. What a great experience!
Tomorrow we will try to make it to Orolon. Love you, Mon Coeur!

So from my end I can see my name. I'm not sure why it didn't show up last time. If it doesn't work this time I will try to fix it. :) Debbie W-K

    1. Hi, Debbie!
This is an amazing experience! You know, YOU gave us the idea by watching The Way in 2017! God has been so gracious and generous with us! Stay tuned!
