We started out on time and raring to go after a nice breakfast with Fr. Pierre. the proprietor of the hostel where we stayed for the last two days. He shared his love of Joan Baez with us.
No markers anywhere, but we finally found the trail and walked about 5 miles to Buzy. About 2 1/2 miles after Buzy, the markers and signs said we had to go back the way we came. Ultimately, after trying every possible path, we decided to follow the one which took us back to Buzy.
We found this lovely B&B with the sweetest proprietor, Lucy, π, and sat in her beautiful back garden with her and her chicken. We walked into town and bought goat cheese, vegetable soup, and Gretchen bought some croissants. We are in our room, lounging on our beds, and will soon eat , hopefully with Lucy.
We have maps, and Waze, and Google maps, but none of these deal with trails except the one we bought for this portion of the trip. We thought that was sufficient. Evidently not. We will soon be joining up with the Compestella markets, then all will be fine.
There is another pilgrim arriving soon, he may be able to help us.

Congrats on great start, (then maybe an educational experience? ) a!omg with meeting helpful people. On to the next kilo.

Thanks Carol. That is a good map for showing the cities and looks to be a trail path. If that were the only hiking path, then we would be fine. There are multiple trails by different organizations with different markers and intersecting paths. If we come to an intersection, our markers, as well as others, are suppose to have left turn, right turn. straight, or don't go this way...our colors are red and white stripes. Too many times the red and white markers aren't there. We end up trying each road until we find our marker further in. Yesterday, our markers totally failed.
DeleteWe will start out today and mostly stick to the main road until we get to Orloron. We are told the Compestela markers will have improved by then.
Please be careful. his is Kathy. I show up as unknown, don't know why. Take it easy. Glad your map was returned. Stay safe. Prayers and good wishes to you both. Love you both. Kathy
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame the markers aren't clear - it would seem since this route is a popular and well traveled one, that they would be. At least you are finding help when you need it and a "safe port" to rest in when you get lost. Hopefully as you say from Compestella things will improve!! Happy trails.
ReplyDeletePam and Teddy too
The route is less known between Lourdes and St. Jean. We had a very good day today with lots of markers, including Compestella markers, so we are feeling much better about that.
DeleteGood luck!
ReplyDeleteWhat you say? No Markers? How frustrating! Thouroughly Happy? Now that says it ALL! Stay Happy. We are with you and if you are Happy, so are we. Dick and Gabby
ReplyDeleteLove you both! Tomorrow we head for L'Hopital Sainte-Blaise.
DeleteSomwhat long walk, 10-15 miles.yes, happy!
So glad you are taking it all in stride. The path will get easier to follow. It's wonderful that you are soaking in the local culture. I loved that this ancient path was so non-commercial. It's all part of the journey!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
:) Debbie W-K
